DEATH OF SIMON ACHIDI ACHU, FORMER PRIME MINISTER OF CAMEROON

Pa Simon Achidi Achu died yesterday 04 May 2021 of an illness in the United States of America where he was receiving medical treatment.

May his soul rest in perfect peace

A graduate of the National School of Administration and Magistracy (Enam), Simon Achidi Achu was 87 years old. He was born on November 5, 1934 in Bamenda, in the North-West Region and precisely from (Santa).
Simon Achidi Achu has been Minister in Cameroon’s two successive regimes since independance.

In 1971, under Ahmadou Ahidjo, Achidi Achu was appointed Minister Delegate for State Inspection, before being promoted to Minister of Justice in 1972. He spent three years in the very prestigious and strategic post of Keeper of the Seals.

In 1992, more precisely on April 9, he was appointed Prime Minister by President Paul Biya. Simon Achidi Achu had just replaced Prime Minister Sadou Hayatou, then Transitional Prime Minister, being the very first Prime Minister of the return to the multiparty rule which led to the 1992 elections. Simon Achidi Achu handed over his seat as Prime Minister to Peter Mafany Musonge in September 19, 1996.

Member of the political bureau of the ruling Cameroon People s Democratic Movement (CPDM), he later became parliamentarian and senator for the party.

All in all, a dean, a patriarch has passed away, a great witness to the rich and tragic history of Cameroon. We will always remember this trivial definition he had of politics: “politics na njangi”. Translation: politics works like a contribution where everyone contributes and benefits in turn.

May his Soul Rest in perfect Peace.. He served his country well.

PS.

Why do Cameroon leaders go to receive medical treatment abroad? 🤔 Why can’t these same people build the best hospitals in Cameroon 🇨🇲 🤷🏾‍♂️
